Herbs

Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.  Used safely and medically for over 5,000 years, Chinese herbs have minimal side effects when correctly prescribed by a trained herbalist. Chinese herbs are combined in classical formulas but can also be customized for an individual patient’s needs. Herbs can be used for acute as well as chronic conditions, such as colds, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual discomfort, infertility, headaches, and insomnia.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient form of medicine where glass cups are placed on the skin to create suction. At the Sher Acupuncture Center, we glide the cups across the skin to break up stagnant energy in the body. This increases blood flow and moves Qi throughout the body which stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities. The cups are often placed on the back, neck and shoulders to relieve muscle tension and promote cell repair.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a healing technique used in traditional Chinese medicine.  A special scraping tool is used to remove stagnation and increase the flow of Qi and blood. Gua Sha creates an anti-inflammatory response in the body which increases oxygen, expels toxins and brings relief from joint pain and stiffness as well as other health conditions such as insomnia, fatigue and headaches.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of the herb mugwort to promote healing with acupuncture. At the Sher Acupuncture Center, we use moxibustion to expel cold and warm the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and Qi. Moxibustion is used to strengthen immunity and to treat sore muscles and menstrual pain. It can also be used to turn breech babies into a normal head-down position prior to childbirth.
