Sher Acupuncture Gift Card

This time of year is the time for giving gifts, and this year, think health. A Sher Acupuncture gift card is a great gift. Here’s an opportunity for a friend or loved one in NYC to meet your third favorite acupuncturist. “But Gabriel,” you say, “you’re my second favorite!!”

A sloth neck tie is also awesome, and definitely don’t skip over a sweet Bob Ross Chia Pet.

Cold+Flu+Covid! It's that time of year. The season is changing, and it now gets dark right after brunch. I find summer stressful. Summer is like being in your 20s. Everyone is doing something that sounds amazing, like waiting in long lines to go to an Instagram museum. In the summer, the weather is great all the time, so you feel guilty about sleeping in. You feel pressure to go out to dinner each night to see all the cool kids.

Gabriel is in his 40s and is winter. You should hibernate in winter. Slow down and know that you don’t have to hang out with the cool kids. I remember when I went to college and everyone was bundled up all the time. Once it hit 50 degrees everyone was out and running around half-naked. Ok, I enjoyed the half-naked part, but let’s appreciate slowing down, turning inward and enjoying the transition to winter.

The Western world says that we get colds because everyone is indoors with others who have snotty noses, coughs and gross germs.

We in Chinese medicine think that it’s our Wei Qi or defensive qi that helps protect us. Wei Qi is our immune system. When we don’t get enough rest, when we are supper stressed, when we don’t eat well, and when we don’t do regular acupuncture. Our system then is weak, and this is when we get sick.

When I lived in China, Dr Zhu said, “Guy-bo,” (my bad ass Chinese name), “don’t touch your face, wash your hands all the time and if you need to touch your face wash your hands first.” Pathogens love to go intot the nose and mouth.

The Western world looks at external pathogens causing sickness while Chinese medicine focuses on self-care and cultivating our ‘Wei Qi’ so that we don’t get sick. Pathogens will always be there, so the key is to make sure your body is strong so it can handle the germs that come our way.

The combination of acupuncture and herbs is extremely effective at keeping your system strong and able to fight off pathogens. If you're prone to catching colds and feel that you have low immunity, acupuncture and Chinese herbs are fantastic at boosting the 'Wei Qi' and giving your body a better chance at defending itself against 'Pathogenic Qi'.

Give the gift of good health to someone you love (and that includes yourself) with a gift card from Sher Acupuncture.
