An expert in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, Gabriel is a licensed and board-certified acupuncturist and herbalist. He has been practicing acupuncture in NYC for over 20 years, treating pain, stress, anxiety and issues related to fertility and pregnancy.
Gabriel was first introduced to acupuncture while he was an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His mother suffered from debilitating migraines his entire childhood. With no end in sight and her symptoms only worsening, Gabriel decided she had no choice but to explore an alternative treatment as Western medicine had repeatedly failed her.
Gabriel accompanied his mother to her first several treatments and immediately felt this was his calling. He was impressed by the acupuncturist’s knowledge of the body and mind. Above all, he was amazed by the fact that after only a few treatments, acupuncture began to cure his mother’s migraines. Acupuncture had accomplished what years of traditional medicine could not.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Gabriel received his degree from the prestigious American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco. After graduating from ACTCM, Gabriel completed his residency at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine teaching hospital in Chengdu, China, immersing himself in Chinese medicine and culture and gaining a deeper expertise in the fields of acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Each day in Chengdu Gabriel saw and treated 40 to 50 patients, affording him the opportunity to treat a wide range of conditions and disorders in dermatology, gynecology and obstetrics, gastroenterology, pain management and pediatrics among others.
Gabriel founded the Sher Acupuncture Center in 2001 in New York City and is a firm believer in what he does. His use of acupuncture, in conjunction with herbal therapy, cupping, gua sha, massage and nutritional medicine has made him one of the premier acupuncturists in New York City, successfully treating patients with a wide range of health issues. Gabriel’s practice is centered on his belief that acupuncture looks at the whole patient. Therefore, prior to treatment, Gabriel engages in an in-depth dialogue with each patient to successfully determine what their body and mind need to rebalance their system. While acupuncture and herbs can effectively treat most conditions, he does believe there are certain areas where Chinese medicine truly excels. Resultantly, Gabriel tends to focus on gastrointestinal disorders, gynecology, sports related injuries, pain management, dermatology, stress and anxiety.
